A Review Of My Morning Jacket’s New Album.

American rock music fans can undoubtedly applaud the latest album from My Morning Jacket, entitled Circuital. The album plays as smoothly as a lullaby, with the exception of “First Light”, which is slightly uptempo in comparison. Jim James continues to use his vocal talent to give a haunting atmosphere to each track.

Each song seems to have its own unique qualities, such as the title track’s guitar string picking or the keyboard chords that seem to dance in the background of “Outta My System”.The whole story can be found at http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/musical/2011/08/01/110801crmu_music_frerejones “Holding on to Black Metal” features James’ effortless high notes. The bluesy “Slow Slow Tune” sets you up for the nearing last track and, as soon as they are both through, you are ready and willing to go through the album again and again.

Whether you are a first time listener of My Morning Jacket or have followed the band over the years, this album will not disappoint. This is not their best album, but perfectly suitable for downtime listening. The songs weld together, making it easy to go through multiple times without feeling repetitive.

Circuital debuted with a Limited Deluxe Package containing a variety of goodies including 2 green colored vinyl LP’s, a high quality lithograph portrait of the band, a 20-panel fold out poster and much, much more. This very rare deal gave any mediocrity to the album a huge pass as it is difficult to get your hands on.

If you are looking for an album to fulfill a need for quality rock music fully loaded with unique and surprising instrumentals and vocals as well as a relaxed vibe, Circuital will succeed in giving you just that. They are not the most well-known rock band and most fans would hope they stay that way to avoid seeing My Morning Jacket mainstream their way into being labelled as pop music. Far from mainstreaming, though, Circuital is a gentle thank you to their fans for accepting and enjoying their unique sound.
